52 Lists. Week 3: List The Things You Should Be Proud Of

Week three of 52 lists brings up the things you should be proud of. It's not really something we tend to think about and I found this list quite hard. But I did manage to get a few bits down.
Another short list but I think this is because I found this quite difficult. We don't sit and think about what we should be proud of in own lives, we're usually more happy for other people when they achieve something.

But a few things I have written are my family, my health, my friends etc. And a few more personal bits like my nail varnish collection, if you don't already know, I have a pretty extensive one and probably own pretty much every colour you'll ever need. Yet I still insist on buying more. Similarly my addiction to makeup. I think it's a pretty common blogger thing and although it's not so good for my bank balance, I think we should be proud of it. (blogger high five). Something I'm really proud of is that I have a monthly guest column in The Sheffield Star. I'm so lucky to have my work published somewhere that reaches quite a few people.

Everyone has something they should be proud and those are mine, but like I've said we just don't think about it. After doing this list though I think it's important to proud of yourself, we've all achieved something that made us happy and excited. So even if it's just the little things, like handing in a piece of work. Be proud of yourself!

What have you guys got to proud of? I'd love to know.

New Look Ring Haul

I don't think one item counts as a haul but I didn't really know what else to call this post and I kind of just wanted to share what I'd bought with you. In my defense, it was one pack with five rings. So you can kind of count it as a haul.
I went through a phase a few years ago of loving rings but grew out of it. Well I went into New Look a few weeks ago, saw these and just thought these were really cute. Shock horror, naughty me, just had to buy them.

I quite like how dainty and small the detail on them is and they pretty much go with anything. For £2.99 you can't go wrong either. When trying them on, some of them fit like midi rings and others 'proper' rings. But they'll probably vary from person to person and you can always buy a bigger size if you don't want them as midi rings.
I've really grown to love these and just think they're really sweet and pretty. A subtle way of accessorizing any outfit.

What do you think of rings? Have you bought anything recently? Leave me links to any hauls.

52 Lists. Week 2: List Your Greatest Comforts

Last week I started a challenge called 52 Lists and I'm back with week 2 - list your greatest comforts. So here goes.
Again, I've tried to keep it short and write the first few things that came into my head within about 15/20 mins.

I've got the obvious again like family, my bed, home etc. But I've also got a few personal bits on there. A scarf around my neck - it's a very rare occasion that I leave the house without a scarf on, it keep me warm and is definitely like a comfort zone for me. Lipstick - something I've become more and more obsessed with since I started blogging and discovered The Body Shop's range. Watching Friends with Benefits - definitely another growing obsession that's occurred over the past few months. It's a proper chic flicky kinda film and is turning into one of these background films I can have on whilst doing something else. And it's got Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis in - bonus
Everyone's comforts will be different, there could a million different things you feel comfortable with or having but those are my few of mine. Of course, anything One Direction had to be on there because that's just me.

What would be on your list? Let me know what your greatest comforts are.

Tips for Student Housing

Sorting out where you're going to live in your next year of university can either be stressful or stress less. I bet some of you have already sorted it and others have no idea. Well here are a few pointers to help everyone.

1) Find your housemates asap.
I know that can be difficult in first year. You've only just met these people, only lived with them for a few months, you don't really know what they could be. But I think the best thing is to trust your instincts. If problems do occur you can deal with them then and there is help. So don't worry (probably something I'll say a lot during this post).

2) Don't worry - there it is. It even got it's own tip.
Probably something you can apply to so many situations involving housing so let me break it down:
  • Don't worry if haven't sorted anything yet - It's never too late. Try ringing up student estate agents and see what you can find. I'm sure most universities have 'accommodation/housing services' go to them. That's what they're there for. To help you with any problems.
  • Don't worry if you do have any 'problems' once you've moved in - Obviously deal with them how you feel best. But if worst comes to worst, talk to family and friends and again housing services are there.
3) Check everything out.
Before you move in, have a proper look around the place - check nothings broken or leaking or damaged. You don't want to be charged for something you didn't do. Check your contract as well, make sure your tenancy length and all that are right. If you have any questions ask them.

4) Make sure it's right for you.
From a female perspective, you'll know when a place is right for you. Don't always expect 5* quality although student housing has got a lot better and modern. But find a place that you and everyone you're living with likes. You might have to negotiate but you've all got to live there, find something for all of you.

I hope these few little tips will or have helped you with anything to do with student housing. If you're still unsure just ask, don't be afraid. Like I said all universities should have an accommodation services type thing and that's what they're there for.

A Bit of Taylor Swift

So I was scrolling through my Twitter late one night and saw a blog post named The Taylor Swift Tag. The first thing that popped into my head was 'Huh, what on earth is this.' Reading it I thought I want to try this. So here's my Taylor Swift tag.
Images credited to Google
1) Welcome to New York - If you could live in any city, in the world, where would it be and why?
Probably New York. I've never been but it's on my list of places to go. It just looks amazing and I'd love to experience life there.

2) Blank Space - What is something that everyone thinks is true about you but is actually false?
I've been told I come across as very calm and collected and don't seem easily stressed (by one of my lecturers). Wrong. That's a million miles from the truth. I'm probably one the most stressy people you will ever meet. I'll let the little things get to me but apparently I hide that well. I have my moments when no one else is around. Little do they know.

3) Style - What is one item in your closet that makes you feel unstoppable?
I don't know if I'd describe them as making me feel unstoppable. But I've loved my Topshop High Waisted Skinnies ever since I bought them. I guess because they're high-waisted and pull my stomach in. They're so comfy and soft as well to be honest. So I guess it'd have to be them.

4) Out of the Woods - What is one thing you're afraid of?
Snakes. Enough said.

5) All You Had To Do Was Stay - Who is someone you wish was still in your life?
My granddad. He passed away when I was about 10/11. Although I was lucky enough 'to get to know him', I would have loved for him to see me now; at university, getting ready to graduate... All of that.

6) Shake It Off - What is something you've had to shake off?
Losing friends. Something we've all probably been through, if you haven't you're very lucky. I guess it's just part of life. You deal with it and move on.

7) I Wish You Would - What is something you'd like to happen right now?
There's so many things I'd like to happen right now... To be on holiday, to get my degree without going through the final few months, to be magically given my dream job. But of all the things, ironically I want One Direction to knock on my door right about now. Someone let them know, that would be a great help. Thanks.

8) Bad Blood - Have you ever had someone stab you in the back?
Hmm, every story has two sides.

9) Wildest Dreams - What would you like to be remembered for?
For being a super amazing journalist who is editor of a magazine. I can dream right? Haha. In all honesty, whatever people want to remember me for.

10) How You Get The Girl - What is your favourite pick-up line?
'If you were a fruit, you'd be a fine apple.' Something I heard whilst watching a Youtube video that just made me laugh.

11) This Love - What is something you got back that you never thought you would?
Errm, I don't know. I have a knack for losing things and never finding them again. But as stupid as it might sound my one and only, fast becoming obsession again red lipstick. It's a £1 one I bought from the market and when I first got it I fell in love. Looking for it one day I couldn't find it anywhere so settled on the idea that it was lost. I bought another one (which I also think I lost) but then went through a phase and became obsessed with my dark red Body Shop one. Randomly one day, I found the original red lipstick rolling in the bottom of one of my million bags. For the past few weeks, I've rediscovered my love of it.

12) I Know Places - Where is one place you always feel safe?
Predictable but home. Without a doubt. I'll always feel safe there. Coming home from uni just puts a smile on my face.

13) Clean - What is an important lesson you've learned in life, and how did you learn it?
Appreciation is important. I don't think there is one particular I've learnt this, it's just something I've learned growing up. We're so lucky to have what we have and we often take it for granted. Me, personally, I've definitely come to realise and appreciate just how much my parents have done for me. Don't get me wrong I was grateful to them before but I've started to appreciate them a whole lot more. Moral of the story: appreciation goes a long way.

I hope you liked this post. It's just something different that I saw that I wanted to try myself. I tag all of you to give it a go. Leave me some below.

52 Lists. Week 1: Words That Touch Your Soul

So a few days ago I was just browsing the web and I came across a post called '52 Lists'. Clicking on it to find out what it was, I found myself sitting there for a good few hours searching for and reading other similar posts. An idea started by Moorea Seal, you make one list every week for the next year with topics she suggested. The idea is to look back at the end of the year and see what you've written and 're-live' the memories. So you have 52 lists for 52 weeks.

It's something that she did last year but I loved the idea of it, that I've decided to do it now. I know we're 3 weeks into the year but I'm still going to start at Week One. Every week for the next year, I will be posting a 52 Lists posts, starting with Words that Touch Your Soul
You can obviously read what's on my list but without boring you, I tried to keep it short with the first few things that popped into my head. Because even as I write this now I can think of a few more I'd add. But I wanted it to be an instantaneous thing otherwise I'd probably go on for ages.

Everyone has different words that touch the soul. Maybe be obvious like Family, Friends, Love etc. But also the personal, so for me blogging had to be on there - it's something I do for me that I love - it's my passion hence why that's on there too. I know parents come under family but I just felt like they had their own place. They've done so much for me that they'll always 'touch my soul'. I've only just started these 52 Lists Posts but it's already got me thinking. And I can't wait to look back at the end of the year and see all of them together.

Have you tried this before? What would be on your list?

Tips for Getting Through Your Exams

A while ago I said I was going to do a little 'Tips for different university things' series. Unfortunately, I've been appalling at blogging that past few months and didn't do any of that. But coming across that post got me thinking on how to start that up again.

So January usually means one thing for not just University but other students as well - Exams. By no means am I an expert in advice giving but here are a few tips from someone whose been through it as well.
Image from Google
1) Leave enough time to revise.
An obvious tip, right? It might be too late if you've already had an exam but don't start learning everything now for an exam next week. It might work and you might do well but I wouldn't advise it. Give yourself enough time so if you don't understand something you can ask for help.

2) Don't over revise.
You might think too much revision can never be done and that's true sometimes. But other times you might just hit a brick wall and think 'Nope, no more is going in.' That's when you need to take a break. Don't sit there for hours revising something that you're going to forget two minutes later because you've been staring at it for too long. Taking a little break is important. Try not to cram it all in, in one go.

3) Get enough sleep.
Image from Google
If you're anything like me, it probably won't be sleep just stress and nervous sleep. But, getting a good nights sleep before your exam is important. I bet you've been told it by everyone but you don't want to turn up half asleep and fully alert. It's hard to put down the book the night before an exam because you want to make sure you know everything. However set yourself a cut off time and wind yourself down.

4) Take a watch into the exam.
A watch - not something I wear everyday but during exams they can be a life saver. As my surname begins with R, I've always been seated at the back of an exam room so wearing a watch helped me with time management. It's easier to have it in front of you rather than have to ask or sometimes look up to the main one. Similarly, taking a bottle of water is a good idea. It'll just help refresh you, especially if you're stuck in a room for 3 hours.

I hope those quick tips help you with any exams or tests coming up. Just try not to stress and take each one as it comes. You can only do your best, no one can ask for any more. Let me know if you have any other tips for exam stress.

And Good Luck!

Review: Primark 'PS Love' Eyeliner

Primark makeup - something you'd automatically buy?

It's definitely not something I'd automatically buy because it's so cheap I'd assume it's not the best quality. But over summer, I popped into a Primarni (as I call it) shop and thought I'd see if their makeup breaks that myth. The first thing I picked up was their eyeliner pen, I've been looking for something to come even close to the Soap n Glory one I tried last year so thought I'd give this a go.
It's just a simple pen that you use to draw on the liner. I've always preferred pen liners to the 'liquid dip brush' kind if you get me. I find them easier to control basically like you're drawing with a pen.
I was definitely surprised when I started to use this eyeliner. I wasn't expecting something so cheap - £1.50, yes that's correct, well it was when I bought it - to be so good. It's just easy to apply, you don't have to press hard, it comes out easily and it lasts. I pretty much use this eyeliner everyday, it's definitely become a staple piece in my makeup kit. I can't rave about it enough.

If you're looking for something cheap and cheerful, I'd definitely recommend giving this a go. It's just something you wouldn't expect.

Moral of the story: Don't judge a book by it's cover or an eyeliner by it's brand.

I also bought the Primark Mascara which I'll also be posting a review of, so look out for that.

No7 Advent Calendar: What You Get Inside

I know this post is a bit late but it's been sitting in my drafts waiting to be posted so I thought I'd finally do it.

I've seen so many non-chocolate advent calendars over the past few years. So when it came to this year I definitely wanted to try one. My first choice was obviously The Body Shop one but it sold out stupidly quickly. :( So when my mum mentioned the No7 one I knew I had to get it before it sold out as well.

At £35 it's definitely not cheap but considering it's No7, it's worth paying that much. I love the idea of opening a window to find something other than chocolate. Something you can try and use. I haven't used any of the items but as and when I do, there will probably be a few review posts going up. But I thought I'd share with you what I got inside.

Day 1 - Skin Illuminator. Day 2 - High Shine Lip Crayon: Delicate Pink. Day 3 - Eye Colour Brush. Day 4 - Youthful Eye Serum. Day 5 - Stay Perfect Nail Colour: Highland Mist.

Day 16 - Essential Lip Brush. Day 17 - Intense Volume Mascara. Day 18 - Nail Effects: Disco Ball. Day 19 - Protect & Perfect Intense Day Hand Cream. Day 20 - Eye Shadow: top shade from Cappuccino Trio.
