Homeware Haul ft Primark and Dunelm

So I'm starting my final year of uni this September (balling my eyes out) and I've been going a little crazy on the home ware shopping. As it's my final year I want to make my flat as homely as possible. So as you can imagine have been collecting a lot of unnecessary items.

Here are the things I've already bought.

No flat is complete without candles and although I've already collected quite a few Yankee Candles, I've also bought some other ones.

These were the first two I bought from Primark. I've actually started to find Primark have some great home ware items and it's pretty reasonably priced.

The first fragrance I bought was Blackcurrant and Orchid. I like the idea of having big (pot) candles instead of little ones. It's so much easier for Uni as you don't need to take candle holder which could break or get lost. This is just one candle you can burn for as long as you like or until it runs out. I love the smell of both of these, they're both sweet.

I then bought Warm Winter Berry. As I'm going to moving back and spending the Autumn/Winter at Uni, I thought this would be the perfect smell to fill my flat with. For £3.50 each, you definitely can't go wrong with price. For the size of candle you get £3.50 is a bargain. Definitely one I'd recommend.

I've also got this candle. I got this as a present so don't actually know where it's from. But you can never have too many candles so will end up taking this to Sheffield as well.

White Jasmine and Lily are a common combination so you can't go wrong with this fragrance. Again, the size of this is fairly decent so it will definitely last a good length of time.

Since seeing my flatmate this years comfy, soft, warm, fleecey blanket I've wanted one. And moving into a new place was the perfect excuse to buy one. After looking everywhere for the perfect snuggley one, I finally found it.

This was the one I settled for; a purple super soft one from Dunelm. It's a big enough size to snuggle under; perfect for those cold nights, especially as I'm at Uni in Sheffield. The coldest place ever. Compared to other ones I found, I just love how soft and fluffy it is. That's all I wanted. And for £9.99 it's not a bad price either. I haven't opened or used it yet so I'll let you know how I get on.

Bed sheets
As I'm moving to a double bed and duvet, a new set of bed sheets were in order.

If you know me, you know I like my butterflies so I had to buy a set of butterfly patterned bed sheets.

These are my more expensive bed sheets from Dunelm but I like the simple pattern on them and the quality of the material is reflected in the price. They look cute but elegant.

The 2nd set is this one from (surprise, surprise) Primark. These are a different, more abstract pattern and that's what drew me to them. I love the 'mismatch' patterns and amount that's going on.

These only cost me about £10 I think so they're so reasonable in price and I hope they serve me well for the next year. Again, they're so cute yet elegant.

I'm still on the hunt for a few more bits and bobs like cushions and little ornaments. So I may post another haul when I get those items. If you know anywhere I can buy cute things from, let me know.

My Top 3 Clothing Brands

I wanted to start this by apologizing for not posting over the past week or so. I actually had the last family wedding the weekend just gone, so spent the week in London but I'm back.

So a few weeks ago, I said I wanted to include more lifestyle/getting to know me posts and started with 5 Ways to Win my Heart

This time, I'm going to make it a bit more fashion related with my 3 favourite clothing brands. Surprisingly I haven't actually been clothes shopping in ages. If only you knew how proud I am. Although I have been makeup shopping. Still pretty proud though.

There are still those couple of brands I will always buy when I'm out shopping.

Without a doubt my favourite clothing brand. It's so affordable, the quality is great and they have something for everything. I'll never walk out of a H&M store empty handed.

I particularly love their dresses. I've bought so many from there and they have a great range; from casual day to dressed up night. I even love that they have basic dresses.

From a quick glance at their website, I loved this long blue dress.

Long Dress, £17
I've noticed H&M have started to do a lot more evening long dresses and for £17 on sale as well you can't really go wrong with this.

I hope this counts. But has literally taken over my life for past few months. It's such an amazing online website. Affordable, practical, great quality etc... It's great for casuals, basics, everyday and for going out, party, prom, evening wear all at great prices. I've bought so much from this website since starting uni as it's just something I can actually afford. (As a treat though.) They have such a good basics range; crop tops, dresses, maxi dresses, tees... And I actually bought one their crop tops to try and loved it.

Nicole Short Sleeve Crop, £5
It's so soft to wear, fits perfectly and even after being washed still feels great to wear. It's a great purchase and for £5 you definitely need to try one.

I know there will be so many people that disagree with me when I say Primark is one of my top 3 clothing brands. But I still go back to Primark to see what they have. They're particularly great for basics like cami's and plain vest tops and t-shirts. The one thing you can't go wrong with from there is PJ's. They have the cutest designs and even if you just buy the tops you can mix and match with ones you have at home. Even though Primarni (as I call it) it getting a little expensive, it's still the same price as H&M so I wouldn't mind spending there either.
H&M, Boohoo and Primark are my top 3 clothing brands. They're definitely the 3 brands I buy the most. What are your top 3 brands?

Beauty and Skincare Haul

For the first time in a long time, I went shopping last week and may have ended up buying a few bits. So I thought a quick haul was needed.

So the first place I went was Savers. If you've never heard or it or been there, then it's a cheaper version of Boots and Superdrug minus the makeup aisles. It's such a great place to shop for any beauty/skincare/general toiletries as they sell the same as other places just a bit cheaper.

I went in there looking for a new face wash as since I've moved home from uni for summer I don't have one here.

I came across this. I've recently become quite skin conscious and so wanted a brand I could trust. Having heard good things about Simple I've decided to give it a go. I bought the Facial Toner and Face Wash in this range. They have so many different products but I picked these as I hope they'll do the job.

The Body Shop
It's not a beauty haul without some Body Shop in here. I actually went into there looking for necessary items; BB cream but walked out with a few more.

BB Cream, The Body Shop, £12
So like I said I went in to buy the All-In-One BB Cream which I use. I've mentioned this in my What's in my makeup bag post so it's not a new product to me. It's a great alternative to foundation. I also came across it in Youtuber Zoella's monthly favourites and couldn't help but smile at the fact she loved it.

So I walked in Body Shop expecting to walk out with just that. But it was 3 for 2 on all skincare and makeup so I couldn't exactly say no to that. You'll never guess what else I bought.....

Lipsticks! Shocking.
Left: Pink Charming, 03. Right: Sunset Romance, 18. £10
I bought these two; both pinky shades and light than what I usually go for. I wanted to try something different. I don't think I need to go on about how much I love Body Shop lipsticks. You've got my other posts for that. But they last, they're great on the lips, they have a massive collection of colours etc...

I haven't swatched these yet but once I've tried them out I will do. I doubt they'll disappoint. Body Shop never does.

Heading to the til, happy with my purchases I found that I could have a free gift worth £5 or less because I'd used my loyalty 5 times. If you're an addict like me this a great must-have card.

Immediately I knew what I wanted. I'd bought my friend a set of 3 lip balms on sale from there and had to restrain myself from buying them for myself. But with the free gift I went in search of that. Unfortunately they 'd run out. So I bought this...

Guava Body Butter, £5
The Guava Body Butter. I didn't realise how nice this smelt until I smelt it. You might think it's a weird choice but I love the smell of it. It's a sweet smell. Having had the strawberry one previously I thought I'd treat myself to this. Well it was free. I'll walk around smelling of Guava now. Yay.

Finally I went into Boots. Over the past few months I seem to have collected quite a few Boots card points so I thought I might as well treat myself and spend some. The first thing that came into my head; nail varnishes. I haven't bought any in a while and wanted to see what was out there.

60 Seconds, 730, Silver Bullet, £3.69

I ended up buying these Rimmel ones. It wasn't after much debate though and walking round the makeup section about a hundred times. I don't think I could pull of a white varnish but this pearly white is a great alternative. I knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it. It's a great variation and a bit more subtle.

I then saw the Sweetie Crush collection and wondered what it was. I've never heard of it, read of it or tried it. So I thought I'd give it a go. I'm not sure if it is a new collection but why not give it a go. I picked a bit of a different shade; blue but I love experimenting and trying new things so I'll give it a go.

Sweetie Crush, 12, Blueberry Whizz, £3.99
They also had a two for one offer on Rimmel cosmetics and I was going to buy the Kate Moss lipstick but they didn't have any different shades which I liked. They always have offers on makeup and that's the best time to buy it. So head down to a Boots store now if need anything.

That was a quick haul of beauty/skincare items I bought last week. Let me know if you've tried or want to try any of these items. If you've done any hauls lately leave me some links, I'd love to see what you've been buying.

Something I Feel Strongly About

So I wasn't planning on writing this post. But when I went to a relatives house we found ourselves having a debate that I just had to blog about. I then thought it would fit into my getting to know me/lifestyle posts. I'll try to keep this short.

The topic: Sexism

The debate (more like an argument) started from the idea that a guy wouldn't watch a
Image from Google
programme/film because the main character was a powerful woman. For instance, the E4 show Revenge. Admittedly I've only just started to watch it myself but from what I know, the main character is a woman who tries to get revenge for her father's death.

The debate came from the idea that it was difficult to imagine a woman doing this in real life, fighting in real life therefore a male wouldn't watch it. Is that sexist?

But why? Why wouldn't you watch a TV series irregardless of who the main character was played by.

The defense being 'I can't imagine a women doing this. It's not real life.'

Ok I understand that people prefer different genres and this argument started from the idea of watching fantasy/action series', ones not based on real life situations. But if you can watch Charlies Angels, Kill Bill and enjoy them both, both of them being actions and having powerful women as the main character. Why can you not even give Revenge a go.

I know that certain roles suit certain people and characters but sometimes roles need to be changed and it can be interesting.

Harry Potter
The example of Harry Potter came up. Would you still watch it if the main character was a female. My answer? Yes, I'd give it a chance. Why not?

Can you not imagine a witch fighting a Basilisk or competing in the Triwizard tournament. Or even killing Voldemort. It's only now that it's such a massive success that we can't imagine a female being the main character. But if it had originally been released as that I'd still give it a chance.

It just makes me wonder why someone else wouldn't.

As we sat down to watch the Brazil v Germany game, what a game may I say, the argument continued. Watching Germany score goal after goal, in a 'male dominant' sport, the question was asked 'Would watch this match if it was the Female team playing?' The answer, No.

Why not? If you enjoy football why wouldn't you watch it irregardless of whose playing. And football is real life.

After practically screaming at each other, maybe not screaming, but you know. I don't think we actually came to an agreement about whether it is Sexist thinking or not. But as a woman, it has to be? Right.

Image from Google
Maybe it's just how males have been programmed, to disagree with everything.

Moral of the debate: A woman can do anything a man can. Maybe even do it better.

Anyway, this was just an interesting topic that we came across and I thought I'd share some views on it. Thinking about it now, it slightly scares me that I'm old enough to have conversations like this. Ahhh I'm getting old.

Let me know what you think. Til next time Happy Shopping. x

OOTD: Wedding Reception Party

On Saturday, I went to a wedding reception party at Belvoir Castle in Grantham. It was so beautiful and the reception took place in a marquee which had been decorated. Of course going to a party meant wearing a dress and an ootd. So here it is.

Dress £12
If you read my Dresses Wishlist post you might recognize this dress as I said it was one of the ones I wanted. It's from I didn't plan on buying this, I just changed my mind last minute about what I wanted to wear and bought it. It was on sale as well. Bonus excuse to buy it.

It's a simple but pretty LBD and I thought it would be perfect for a reception. I saw torn between a long and short but as I literally ordered this on Thursday, didn't really have time to try and buy. I wanted something simple though that I could accessorize up.

Primark £4
I went for a statement necklace as the dress was simple. I wore this pearly one from Primark. I've been looking for an excuse to wear this necklace and it just went with the dress. Along with some simple pearl stud earrings. You could pretty much put any necklace with this dress and it would go. That's why I love it - dressed up or down it works.

I kept the makeup quite simple using the Sleek Storm palette which I've raved about so many times. (Not sure you can see my eye shadow properly here oops)

So that was a quick Outfit of the Evening that I wore the other night. Hope you enjoyed that look. Leave me some links to any OOTD's you've posted.

June Favourites

Now that it's already 3rd July, I thought it was about time I posted my June favourites. I can't quite believe it's July already. (only 2 months til my birthday) The year just seems to be going very quickly but here are the items I've been loving through June.

The Body Shop Born Lippy
Born Lippy, The Body Shop, £2
Being the massive Body Shop lover I am, I've really got into their lip balms. They're so good. They make your lips soft and have some amazing flavours. I recently bought a friend the set of 3 and was so tempted to get one for myself. But I didn't. It lasts for ages and doesn't change in consistency or become sticky. Definitely one to buy and keep in your handbag.

The Body Shop Colour Crush Lipstick
Colour Crush, The Body Shop, £10
I talked about this lipstick in my Updated Makeup Bag post and during June I've loved wearing this colour. Yes, it's a purple - a colour to be worn with caution. But I've loved wearing it. It's such a pigmented colour (most Body Shop lippys are) that you don't need a lot and it lasts. I never thought purple lipstick could be my colour but I love it. Applied with a brush and you can choose the deepness of the colour. So it's great.

Barry M Genie Lipstick
Genie, Barry M, £4.49
I actually bought this lipstick a while ago but have only started loving it recently. And yes it is green but don't be deceived. It changes colour depending on the 'Alkaline' (as said on the website) of each persons lips. So on one person it might be a bright pink or another light pink. I love it because sometimes I don't want a red or purple and this is great, easy to glide on. It feels so silky and glides on your lips and stays put. Essential. Plus it's a magic lipstick. Why wouldn't you want it?

Sleek Storm Palette
Storm Palette, Sleek, £7.99 (Superdrug)
I first mentioned this palette in a haul post and after having used it intensively (as you can tell by the appearance) I love it. It's been such a great basic palette especially for all the weddings and parties I've had. It lasts the whole day and is definitely an investment. Like I've said before, a perfect starter palette with all the essential colours.

Nail Art Gems

With all the weddings and parties, doing mine and other peoples nails has been essential and I wanted to try something different. I bought these nail art gems for the engagements last year but never bothered to use them. I love doing my nails and these just look cute and different. I bought these from Amazon and you get so many different shapes. They're great to have fun with. I would recommend buying some nail art glue to make sure they last on your nails.

This is a bit of random fave. But as the weathers got nicer I've started to drink a lot more smoothies. They're so refreshing and easy to make. This one was Kiwi, passion fruit and banana. My favourite has to be Mango and Strawberry though. You can't beat the classic.

Chocolate Tea

I recently discovered this in Tesco and had to have it as soon as I saw it. Chocolate Tea. No, you've not read that wrong. They're normal teabags flavoured like chocolate. It's not an overpowering taste though just a subtle vanilla-ey/chocolate one. You make it like normal tea with water and milk. But it's so yummy. I love these - combining my two favourite things - so why wouldn't I love it. I have to stop myself drinking too much now.

Those were my June Favourites; a toss up of makeup and drinks. What did you love through June? Let me know.

OOTD: Indian Wedding Number 2

I haven't blogged in a while and that's because I've been busy with the second family wedding. It was on Sunday and after finally recovering from tiredness I thought I'd post and OOTD. If you haven't checked out the first wedding OOTD make sure you do.

I went for a blue net sari with silver and gold embroidery and gem stones all over it.

Like with most my weddings outfits this was bought from India when I went so I got to pick it put myself. I just love the colours and detailed work and the split detail at the bottom.

I wore 'statement' jewellery so it would stand out against the outfit.

Bombay Looks, Leicester, £8
The earrings were from an Asian shop in Leicester and I only bought them on Thursday. I'd bought other earrings to wear but they were too dark of a blue for the necklace.

Next, £12/14
I actually bought this necklace last year when I was engagement jewellery shopping and saved it for the wedding. It was from Next, so didn't come with earrings and ever since then was looking for perfect earrings but couldn't find any. I instantly loved this necklace. It's such a statement piece and can be worn with English and Indian outfits.

Bombay Looks, Leicester, £8
I also wore a little head piece that dangled down on my forehead. Also from Leicester, found when I went to buy earrings.

I'm not sure when I'll get to wear this outfit again but I did love wearing it. I tried to keep the jewellery simple but elegant and make it stand out.

I hope you enjoyed this different OOTD. I've still got one more family wedding so look out for that post.
